Born 1955 in Oran, Jean-Marc Foussat created
several ephemeral experimental groups in the mid-1970s. He first played
the guitar, before preferring the analog synthesizer and magnetic tapes. At the end of the 1970s he began recording improvised music concerts (
Derek Bailey, Steve Lacy, Massacre, Carlos Zingaro,
Joëlle Léandre, etc.) and
collaborated with labels such as Incus, Hat Hut, Tzadik, Rec Rec,
Celluloïd, Rectangle...
In 1981, he publishes "Abattage", his first solo album. Ten
years after, he goes back on stage with the group Marteau Rouge,
accompanied by
Makoto Sato on drums and
Jean-François
Pauvros on
electric guitar. In 2005 he started "Aliquid", with saxophonist Sylvain
Guerineau, and little by little, will play more and more regularly with
many improvised music actors in France and elsewhere. At the end of 2012 he launched his label Fou Records.

Quentin Rollet (born 1974) started playing the alto saxophone at the age of 11 and the sopranino saxophone at 37. After a few years spent unlearning the teaching of the conservatory, he devoted himself solely to free improvisation. This led him to play on record or on stage with groups as varied as

An important figure of the contemporary improvised scene, Makoto Sato (born 1946 in Niigata, Japan) is a Japanese drummer living in Paris. In 1970, he came to Paris for the first time and had the chance to attend concerts of exceptional musicians such as Sunny Murray, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Alan Silva or Marion Brown. These experiences revealed to him the multiple possibilities of improvisation. Later he met
Don Cherry, Itaru Oki and Masahiko Togashi, and these encounters encouraged him to experiment with music himself. He started to play drums. In 1992, with
Jean-François Pauvros, guitarist and
Jean-Marc Foussat, electroacoustic musician, he creates the band Marteau Rouge. Makoto Sato plays with Joe McPhee, Alan Silva, Itaru Oki, Raymond Boni,
Daunik Lazro, Stéphane Payen, Michael Marcus, Ted Daniel, Lucien Johnson, Rasul Siddik, Tollem McDonas, Eric Zinman, Benjamin Duboc, Geza Tomka... He also works with dancers such as Masaki Iwana, Gyohei Zaitsu or Maki Watanabe.
