les presses du réel
Raffaella della Olga, Camila Oliveira Fairclough, Elsa Werth - Forsythia, Lilac and Geranium
A book-exhibition that brings together the practice of three artists from the contemporary publishing scene around the figure of Mary Ellen Solt (1920-2007), an American artist whose works of concrete poetry enter into graphic and conceptual resonance with the three artists' own publications.
Born 1967 in Bergamo (Italy), Raffaella della Olga lives in Paris. Having chosen to turn analog and work most exclusively with typewriting machine, she has with this tool found a way to write and draw her own path to abstraction. What starts as a concept (to be an "analog artist" in digital ages, to find freedom through mechanical gestures) has rapidly turn into an infinite exploration and expansion of the space of the page. Echoing her work with the typewriting machine, she practices an art of deconstruction with pieces of printed fabrics that she cuts into open and vibrant grids reminding of Op Art.
Born 1979 in Rio de Janeiro, Camila Oliveira Fairclough lives and works in Paris.
Elsa Werth (born 1895 in Paris) is engaged in a multidimensional work : installation, sculpture, video, artist's book and sound. Through an economy of means she claims non-spectacular gestures as resistance tactics. She diverts words, objects and gestures from their common use. Her approach counters commodity production and challenges normalized information. Thus questioning the criteria for works of art to exist in an environment where representations are standardized.
