David Shrigley has often collaborated with musicians. As part of the 2016 edition of the Printemps de septembre, he designed a tailor-made project for the Institut supérieur des arts de Toulouse by providing all the elements needed to organise a music festival: instruments (guitars, basses, gongs and various percussion instruments), stage set and rehearsal studio, posters, all designed by him, and even the words of thirty-one songs that the guest musicians could freely use. These texts are reproduced in this book with their French translation.
Published on the occasion
of the eponymous exhibition at Institut supérieur des arts de Toulouse, in 2016.
Since 2016, Thierry Leviez has been in charge of the exhibition program at Beaux-Arts Paris. Before that from 2012 to 2016 he was an exhibition curator of Printemps de septembre. He published a few monographic catalogues: “
Jorge Pardo, display for the Museum les Augustins” (Hatje Cantz, 2018), “Per Kirkeby. Brick sculptures” (Cahiers d'art, 2017), Marion Verboom (Musée des Sables d'Olonnes, 2015). Since 2018 he teaches exhibition display at Beaux-Arts de Paris.
The name David Shrigley (born 1968 in Macclesfield, lives and works in Brighton) is associated above all with his combinations of awkward
drawings and
satirical commentaries highlighting the tragicomedy of ordinary situations. Although drawing is always at the heart of his practice, Shrigley works with a great variety of media, including sculpture, installation, animation, painting, photography and theatre, constantly working to extend his field of action beyond the world of art, notably in his many collaborative projects with musicians.
