This catalogue looks back at Hartung's artistic production and life during the
Second World War.
This special volume was published by the Hartung-Bergman Foundation (Antibes) on the occasion of the exhibition “Hans Hartung and the war years” at the Musée Zervos of Vézelay (Yonne, France) in the summer of 2018. Abundantly illustrated, it presents the main aspects of the production of the artist during the Second World War and its passage through the French foreign legion: inks and drawings, abstract paintings, but also lesser known facets such as the series of “Heads” or the “Gonzaloid” objetcs inspired by his father-in-law at that time, the Spanish sculptor Julio González.
Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at the Zervos Museum in Vézelay, France, from July 14 to October 15, 2018.
