Quintessa Matrangra views the subject of her toilet
paintings in two ways: first, as a symbol of contemplation or critique, and second, as an extension of the human anatomy. In her words, “The toilet functions as an inbetween place—between our human selves and our houses, or our built surroundings. It's something of a portal where our body blends into the world.”
Toilet Paintings collects Matrangra's celebrated series, (first exhibited at Freddy in Harris, New York, in May 2017), in the debut publication of her paintings.
