Miss Marie le Masson Le Golft (1749-1826) is known as the lady who noted Nature.
Marie le Masson Le Golft contemplated and evaluated 995 items: 112 four -legged creatures, 188 birds, 147 fish species, 30 crustaceans, 100 shells, 75 trees, 181 insects, 11 gems stones... She also attributed grades (0 - 20) to each item according to God's harmonious design, with respect to form, color, taste, odor, instinct). The jaguar is graded 10 for form but 5 for instinct, the badger respectively 3 and 7, the rat 3 and 2, etc.
Presented by Marc Décimo, this publication includes intriguiging observations such as : Research on mussels and swallows, Remarks on the inflation of milk as it boils, Notes on the extraordinary fog that enveloped Le Havre for two consecutive months in the year 1783.
Linguist, semiotician and art historian, Marc Décimo is Professor of Contemporary Art History in Paris-X Nanterre and Regent of the College of 'Pataphysics (Chair of Literary, Ethnographical and Architectural Amoriography). He is the editor of Lydie Fischer Sarazin-Levassor's memories with Marcel Duchamp, and of Brisset's complete works. He published around twenty books on fous littéraires and historical avant-gardes, including an essay on Brisset (Jean-Pierre Brisset - Prince des Penseurs), and numerous books on Duchamp: Duchamp mis à nu (“Duchamp laid bare”), Duchamp facile (“Duchamp made easy”)...
