Peep-Hole Sheet #18 – A Landscape of Time

Alejandro Cesarco - Peep-Hole Sheet #18
A reflection on the problematic of temporality, from an analysis of On Kawara's practice, also revealing certain important aspects of Cesarco's working methods.
A Landscape of Time was originally conceived as a talk given in 2012 at Dia Art Foundation as part of their “Artists on Artists” program, a lecture series that examines the work of contemporary artists from the perspective of their colleagues. First published in Peep-Hole Sheet, the text starts with an analysis of On Kawara's practice, moving on to reflect on the fundamental philosophical question of Time. Cesarco's considerations about On Kawara thus go beyond a detailed survey of his works, also revealing certain important aspects of Cesarco's working methods and highlighting the importance and value of the often hidden links between artists' lines of exploration.
Peep-Hole Sheet is a quarterly of writings by artists published by Mousse Publishing until 2016. Each issue is dedicated solely to one artist, who is invited to contribute with an unpublished text whose content is completely free in terms both of subject and format. The texts are published in their original language, with accompanying translations in English and Italian. Peep-Hole Sheet is meant for those who believe artists are catalysts for ideas all around us, and who want to read their words without any filter. Over time it aspires to build up an anthology of writings that might open new perspectives for interpreting and understanding our times.
Born 1975 in Montevideo (Uruguay), Alejandro Cesarco lives and works in New York.
