Artist and Purple magazine artistic director Christophe Brunnquell and photographer Grégoire Alexandre continue their long-standing collaboration with a tribute to Picasso on the 50th anniversary of his death.
"Happy Birthday Picasso celebrates the artist's creative energy, drawing inspiration from the multiplicity of materials, shapes and textures available. The series takes hold of bodies, fragmenting, dissolving, hybridizing and reconstituting them through photography.
'Je vois la lumière noire' (the last words of Victor Hugo) continues this hybridization of figures through the exclusive use of light, in the form of projections of drawings, collages and motifs, combined with the volumes of the bodies. The deep black-and-white of the images swallows up contours and expands possibilities.
No intervention after the shot, everything is done in the moment of the photograph, in the energy of the performance."
