First monograph.
Neda Saeedi's installations and sculptures explore the visual, historical, and political resonance of materials, while dissecting the power dynamics that shape the histories of places and landscapes. Whispers, the artist's debut monograph, introduces a completely new way of looking at her (typically expansive) installation work by focusing almost exclusively on close-up views. This playful examination of details offers a fresh pictorial interpretation of her practice, and exemplifies Saeedi's engagement with materials, illusions, and the agency of objects and spaces. Themes explored in the book include inclusion and exclusion, gardens, windows, light, and the portal as a metaphor for colonial continuities across history.
Born 1987 in Tehran (Iran), Neda Saeedi lives and works in Berlin. She studied classical sculpture under the direction of Raffie Davtian in Tehran and later Fine Arts at the LensBased Class of Prof.
Hito Steyerl at Berlin University of Arts (UdK). She is the recipient of the Villa Romana Prize 2022 and a fellow of the International Research Fellow of Max-Planck-Institut in Florenz, the Kunstfonds Scholarship 2020 and The Elsa Neumann Emerging Artist Prize 2019. She is an alumni of the Delfina Foundation Artist Residency in London. Saeedi has exhibited her work at galleries, museums and art spaces internationally.
