The visual iconography of Scotland transformed by Parr into the outlandish and unfamiliar.
For more than 25 years Martin Parr has been taking photographs in Scotland. From the streets of Glasgow to an island agricultural show in Orkney, Parr has built a huge archive of photographs. Now for the first time these images are to be published in this book to coincide with his "'Think of Scotland" exhibition at the newly opened Aberdeen Art Gallery. This body of work—Parr's largest previously unpublished archive—weaves together some of the expected visual iconography of Scotland, such as highland games and stunning landscapes, but all with the Parr twist that makes the expected look so unfamiliar.
Martin Parr (born 1952 in Epsom, UK) is one of the best-known documentary photographers of his generation. The author of more than 100 books and the editor of 30 others, he has firmly established his photographic legacy. In 1994 he became a full member of Magnum Photographic Cooperative. Between 2013-2017 Martin Parr was president of Magnum Photos. In 2017 the Martin Parr Foundation opened in Bristol. Parr's work has been collected by many of the major museums, including the Tate, Centre Pompidou, and the MoMA in New York.
