Julia Chiang

Julia Chiang (born 1978 in Atlantic City, NJ, lives and works in Brooklyn) is known for her carefully constructed, detailed paintings in which intricate webs of shapes small and large converge across flat-color backgrounds. Repeated pointed ellipses, a recurring feature of her work, create channels of energy across the canvas. Her shapes ebb and flow, striving for a balance between precision and expansion. With a background in ceramics, Chiang's paintings reflect the textured, dynamic nature of her clay practice.
