Wendy Hui Kyong Chun - Codes, races, climat, habitudes
New media theorist Wendy Hui Kyong Chun exposes her original conception of programming and code, alerts us to the racialization bias, homophily and eugenic tendencies that govern our interactions on platforms, and analyzes the need to call upon the humanities and social sciences in the development of algorithmic models for predicting the evolutions and impacts of climate change.
Wendy Hui Kyong Chun is Simon Fraser University's Canada 150 Research Chair in New Media and Professor of Communication and Director of the SFU Digital Democracies Institute. She is the author of Discriminating Data: Correlation, Neighborhoods, and the New Politics of Recognition (2021), Updating to Remain the Same: Habitual New Media (2016), Programmed Visions: Software and Memory (2011), and Control and Freedom: Power and Paranoia in the Age of Fiber Optics (2006).
