A "different" kind of catalogue for the exhibition "Grey Flags" at the Sculpture Center, NY.
Bettina Funcke round up a book that could be made quickly while remaining precise and specific. She focused on writing over images, on the discourses around visual strategies, in order to provide insight into the thought processes that inform the exhibition and its individual works.
The collected texts from several artists have a material presence that was as interesting as, but quite different from, the original publications. Facsimile appropriations, scanned pages, Xeroxes; evident creases, Post-It notes, air pockets, and edges, all of which are presented on the pages framed by empty space – a kind of homage to each text. The energy builds from the interaction between the materials.
