Systems and Scenarios

Systems and Scenarios Yvette Brackman - Systems and Scenarios
First monograph on the oeuvre of Copenhagen-based, American artist Yvette Brackman.
“Systems and Scenarios” contains a series of interviews with Brackman conducted over several months by independent curator and writer Helene Lundbye, and a comprehensive essay by Heike Munder, director of the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich. Both these authors' contributions illuminate Brackman's visual and conceptual approach in detail and explore how she weaves together a broad array of artworks and topics ranging from the artist's own family's roots in Soviet Russia to Siberia's indigenous communities and the cultural impact of global commerce on them.
The complex and evocative works of Yvette Brackman (born 1967 in New York City, lives and works in Copenhagen) take many forms such as installations, sculptures, performances, videos, and text. She explores themes such as the interplay between origin and memory; the body and its representation; trauma and the dislocation of local communities; cultural survival and adaptability; design objects and their repurposed functions, as well as political systems and their after effects.
