It is a perilous enterprise to claim we want to show
everything : we accept that the different sections
of drawing represented here in are the fruit of our
personal tastes and affinities. This doesn't preclude
the fact that we refuse both the compartmentalization
of genres as well as systematic labeling ; this
approach is undoubtedly a little naïve but, first
and foremost, sincere.
Led by the same editorial team and driven by
the same spirit of collegiality, we affirm our desire
to reveal a particular diversity in contemporary
drawing.
We give the floor to the illustrators through
interviews, a form of writing that is dear to us. It
allows their personalities to become more tangible,
and their discourses livelier. It is distinct from
a critical text in that the author allows us to catch
sight of his fragility, contradictions, and doubts.
And if the direct links between each article are not
immediately apparent, it is because the majority
of our interviewees have the unique quality of
not fitting into the category that one might like
to assign them when limited to taking a formal
approach to their work.
As we continue our own artistic activities, we
wish to continue to develop Collection in its entirety:
from the choice of artists to the carryingout
of
the interviews, from the graphic design to the far
less interesting tasks which are incumbent for
any similar project.
This will to remain independent and autonomous
does not prevent us from bringing in players
from other artistic scenes that we wish to support.
To this end, Laurent Bruel (éditions Matière),
Félicia Atkinson (contemporary artist), as well as
Bartolomé Sanson (éditions Kaugummi) joined
Joseph Ghosn in the invited ranks of the
editorial team.
