Montagne Noire / GMEA

The first monograph devoted to the piano works of composer, pianist and improviser Frédéric Lagnau (1967-2010), whose music, with its communicative energy, offers a personal and poetic approach to minimalism. Sensitivity to sound, harmonic beauty and rhythmic intensity are its hallmarks.

Two pieces written by Éliane Radigue at the same period (2014-2018), one instrumental (recorded at the Philharmonie de Paris by Ensemble Dedalus) and the other electronic (performed by Ryoko Akama).

Algorithm as material and writing.

This album draws its sounds from improvisations generated by a violin, a few dozen freshly awakened birds, highly reverberant spaces, a voice saying words of Roberto Juarroz and Paul Verlaine, the nostalgia of childhood westerns, a viola mounted with electric guitar strings and the memory of those who left too soon.

Jean-Luc Guionnet and Claire Bergerault have been working as an organ and voice duo in various churches since 2007. The challenge is, each time, to adapt to the configuration of the building and the organ, and then to stretch their music on the breach of this singularity.

Christine Wodrascka, pianist and improviser, and Jean-Yves Evrard, guitarist and improviser, produce one and the same complex sound material, a homogeneous and multiple sum, advocating a freedom nestled in the interstice of notes.

Joëlle Léandre (double bass, voice) and Alexandra Grimal (saxophones, voice) compose, improvise and underline the freedom of musical creation.
