Founded in 2014 and based in Paris, Zamân Books is dedicated to exploring the counter-histories of our visual, cultural and artistic modernism, beginning with the
history of art and of those abstract categories “
East” and “West”, which Zamân sets out to reinterpret, resituate and transform.
Focused on the Middle East and the Mediterranean from North Africa to
Turkey, as well as
Iran and
India, Zamân Books has as its primary mission the dissemination of the latest international thinking about art and the image, and analysis of the new geography of art history. It achieves this via monographs, artist's books, thematic and collective publications, and new editions of rare or rediscovered works. The emphasis is on a bilingual French/English approach, together with Arabic and Farsi as appropriate.
Zamân Books was created in the wake of the review
Zamân. Textes, images & documents, reborn in 2010 after a hiatus of thirty years. The ongoing annual publication of
Zamân enables productive interaction between the two formats, with the review functioning as an intellectual laboratory for projects to be developed by Zamân Books.
