Art historian, specialist in the anthropology of art,
media theory and the
status of images and their roles in human societies, Hans Belting (1935-2023), holder of the European Chair at the Collège de France in 2002-2003, was an honorary professor at the University of Heidelberg, director of the International Research Center for Cultural Sciences in Vienna, and a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences.
