Jane Jin Kaisen (born 1980 in Jeju, Republic of Korea) lives and works in Berlin and Copenhagen. Nourished by a long and detailed research phase, ranging from the exploration of archives and literary texts, to her own collection of images and sounds, her practice takes a particular interest in rites and memory. From a
postcolonial and
feminist perspective, she explores forgotten histories while trying to pinpoint the reason for this amnesia, and their political potential when they at last become known. She was one of the participants in the
Korea Pavilion of the Venice Biennale of 2019. Her work is regularly presented in collective exhibitions, in particular at the Kyoto Museum of Art (2004), the Finnish Museum of Photography, Helsinki (2017), the Museum Ludwig, Cologne (2018), and the SeMA Nam-Seoul Museum of Art (2019).
