Sun Ra (1914-1993) is an African-American avant-garde
jazz pianist and composer. A prolific artist, he recorded over
one-hundred albums with his band, the Sun Ra Arkestra. His work is imprinted
with esoteric elements drawn from a personal cosmic philosophy that had a
great influence on Afrofuturism.
A newly unearthed recording of an interview between Sun Ra and composer, sound and intermedia artist and Fluxus associate Charlie Morrow recorded at his New York studio in 1989. This outstanding voice-only recording develops more like a kaleidoscopic sermon than any standard interview.
