Élisée Reclus (1830-1905) was a French geographer, writer and
anarchist. A communard, anarchist theorist, teacher, writer, poet and great traveler, he is the author of a considerable, highly modern body of work. His committed, humane and sensitive approach to geography as a science of interactions and a tool for liberation is now considered a pioneering work in
ecology,
feminism, analysis of
colonization, reflection on globalized capitalism and social inequalities.
