This artist's book / CD includes an innovative work made of sound and pictures related to an installation made by the artist in Japan in 2012.
In 2012, Christian Marclay was invited to create an artwork for “Mixed Bathing World”, a contemporary art festival held in the town of Beppu, Japan, famous for its onsen (hot springs). It has eight major geothermal hot spots, sometimes referred to as the “Eight Hells of Beppu”. On a jetty near the harbor Marclay installed a field of 100 flags banners, 50 represented water and 50 fire. At the bottom corner of each flag he attached a small bell.

The Clock (2010), he is equally fascinated by all aspects of popular music and avant-garde music, Hollywood cinema, and experimental film. Drawing on the
Fluxus vision of art and Pop spirit, and heir to
John Cage and
Andy Warhol, Marclay has been exploring all the possibilities of the visual arts and the relationships between visual and
sonic phenomena through collage, assemblage, installation, video, photography, painting, and printmaking. Also a performer, he has taken part in numerous musical projects, making the vinyl record and the turntable his favorite instruments.
