A selection of notes written by Gabriel Sierra from 2007 to 2011.
Batería (Battery) is composed of a selection of notes Gabriel Sierra jotted down from 2007 to 2011, part of a larger as yet unpublished collection that will be released during the course of 2013. Presented in coordination with his exhibition Thus Far in the spaces of Peep-Hole, the text completes the show, because the reflections contained in the former lay the theoretical groundwork for the latter.
“My notes are very important, on my work everything come from those notes. I have a lot of notebooks, probably one for each month of the year, so normally I look at them when I need ideas or when I try to understand how to figure out a concept or a situation. I call them ‘Battery' because they are a kind of energy: words and drawings sometimes work as a battery to record and recharge the process of thinking, or to look back in time”.
Peep-Hole Sheet is a quarterly of writings by artists published by Mousse Publishing until 2016. Each issue is dedicated solely to one artist, who is invited to contribute with an unpublished text whose content is completely free in terms both of subject and format. The texts are published in their original language, with accompanying translations in English and Italian. Peep-Hole Sheet is meant for those who believe artists are catalysts for ideas all around us, and who want to read their words without any filter. Over time it aspires to build up an anthology of writings that might open new perspectives for interpreting and understanding our times.
Born 1975 in San Juan Nepomuceno (Colombia), Gabriel Sierra lives and works in Bogota.
