An overview of contemporary graphic design, through a set of creations by singular designers and studios: Ahn Sang Soo, Helmo, Julian House (Warp)...
The catalogue of the Saison Graphique 2013 exhibition inaugurates a work
of reflections which stress the importance of structuring this event by the
written medium, specifying its peculiarities, and extending its echo in a
critical perspective.
The diversity of the texts, whether by their content or their tone,
responds to that of the exhibition, in which different structures have been
asked to approach and assist a graphic designer in questioning his/her
practice and disciplin through an exhibiting of his/her work with an
original scenography.
Two curators (Nawal Bakouri and Jean-Michel
Géridan) were in charge of writing respectively on the works of Ahn
Sang Soo and Julian House. Helmo exchanged with Jochen Gerner, and they
contribute by their analysis in placing the contextual aspects of
contemporary graphic creation. Following an interview of the illustrator
Hervé Tullet, Jean-Noël Lafargue questions the functioning and
the interaction modes of childrens' books in the digital era.
For the collective
exhibition Un Imprimeur, the floor was given to graphic designers: the
intimate and committed speech helps us to understand the importance of
design in our society.
Self-standing object, this catalogue intends, together with curatorial
research, to deepen the reflection on the contribution of graphic design to
the world, to our relation to the world.
