A reflection on the experience and challenges of an artistic residency in a rural environment, nourished by the thought of re-habitation.
What remains of a creative residency after it has taken place? There are of course the works, when they are lasting, but often the essential is immaterial: it is the experience of another context, the shift of point of view, the discovery of different ways of doing things, seen and heard, which will then infuse, and sometimes transform an artistic practice or the life of a territory. If it were necessary to indicate in a few words the reason for the existence of this work, it would be this: to provide access to the residence of creation itself, in the diversity of its aspects, from the works produced to the reflections it has generated, through the research carried out and the sensations which accompanied it. In short, try to grasp the residency as an experience. The residence in question is that of Ateliers des Arques, in the Lot. Under the artistic direction of Emmanuel Tibloux, the two editions 2023 and 2024 were an opportunity to bring together artists and designers to address the challenges of artistic residency in rural areas and see how such an experience could also concern our ways to live or re-inhabit.
