Artist's book.
"Toto-Dico #1" is an artist's book by François Giboulet, celebrating his artistic character-procurement nicknamed Toto. This repertoire of "Toto-esque" words and phrases has been forged over the last forty years through a wide range of literary and iconographic exchanges in an informal "Totofanclub". The glossary concludes with a series of epistolary exchanges with
Jean-Claude Moineau, professor of art theory, on the notion of fanclubbing and the installation of the artistic concept of easy-made ("Toto easy-made").
The open approach of French artist François Giboulet (born 1954) to "fan" participation and his "easy-made" practice places him in the tradition of artists exploring the margins of art, from
Fluxus to
singular or modest art. A qualified art teacher, he is the author of several works on the history of painting and has taught visual arts at the University of Orléans-Tours.
