Jamie McLeod
Jamie McLeod (born 1965) is essentially a deviant artist who brings together his passion for sex, art and rock & roll into a sleaze-tastic melee of demi-monde deconstruction. Specialising in a curious hybrid genre, mashing up classic portraiture and blurring the lines between photography, iconography and the graphic arts. Creating cinematic-like cameos for his subjects to exhibit and expand within.
McLeod says his job is somewhere between a butcher, a jazz musician and a mortician. Scratching his film noir-like poetry and obsessions into scenes from his imaginary psycho-metropolis, conjuring up pulp fiction like images from the city's hypnotic neon beats, a kind of electro-graphics with the noise and static included. He focuses on territories where the flesh and the spirit are in eternal opposition, in a land of dead-end-chancer's, exhibitionists, pop stars, femme fatales, wrestlers, transvestites, criminals, poseurs and whores.
Forever celebrating the outsiders, the transgressive, the night people, the lost boys, the vamp and the eternally glamorous. All who perform for his camera as if in their own tripple-X-feature. He immortalizes his subjects as newly found supernovas from the gutter. Working a taboo vernacular, taking the viewer on a sensational ride through the luxe-lands and into trash cans, via Heartbreak Hotel and then back again for some more.
