Published following the eponymous exhibition at Le Centre d'Art at Maison Dufort, Port-au-Prince, from May 31 to June 29, 2019.
The work of Tessa Mars (born 1985 in Port-au-Prince, where she lives and works) is crossed by Caribbean influences and is inspired by masters of Haitian painting such as Hector Hyppolite. Her work, marked by a quest for identity, feeds on both personal and national history, island dynamics and societal violence and questions her position as a woman in this context.
