From January to August 2017, Jeanne Susplugas presents a project in three different locations, truly a trail to extend our reflection around the concept of home. Through works that vary in form and scale, the artist reveals part of an infinity of sensible approaches to inhabited space.
Between fascination and repulsion, fusion and rejection, real and intimate, mobile and immobile, unravels the question of self-imprisonment and the other's apparition.
“Committed, yet not political, the work of Jeanne Susplugas uses all shapes and all strategies of imprisonment, to interrogate the relationships of the individual with himself as well as with the other.” (
Philippe Piguet,
Semaine #11)
At La Maréchalerie, Jeanne Susplugas presents a work specifically designed for the location, inspired by a series of drawn portraits transposed as a monumental sculpture. This installation questions our link to inhabited and fantasized space, our dependence on objects and images, and our connection to intimacy.
At VivoEquidem, the artist recreates a modular interior that asks us about our search of a house to inhabit space. For that we transform it, we organize it, we project in it our desires, fantasies, fears, … The exhibition is made as a platform for invitations (led by Jeanne herself) that will take place throughout the exhibition to wonder about fundamental questions concerning inhabitation, like alienation, desired or necessary mobility, maintenance, full and hollow space, time, or distance between beings.
At the School of Beaux-Arts in Versailles, she presents works putting notably the accent on distortions between beings through videos made from literary sources or texts she orders from authors. She also presents drawings of genealogical trees that underline our difficulties to live with ourselves.
