This publication on Nicolas Schöffer coincides with two exhibitions of his work at the Villa Tamais and the
Vasarely Fondation. Curator Eric Mangion discusses the conditionning of art while Maude Ligier, treating Schöffer for her doctorate in Art History at Paris IV University, contributes three essays on the multiple aspects of this artist's work, primarily sculpture, architecture and mass media, not to mention connections with the kinetic art movement itself linked to scientific advances of the mid fifties, also cybernetics, music, dance and cinematography to animate and elaborate a modern language oriented toward the audiovisual and a renewal of the perceptive process. Since the 1963 mongraph by
Griffon editions went out of print there has been an editorial void which is now updated with this new presentation of Schöffer's work, visually laid out to match the scenographic design of the two exhibitions.
