From the windows of the Genevan gallery Skopia to the Parisian boutique “Au Grand Monarque”, The Shop Sign by Thomas Huber retraces the destiny of two paintings between the 18th and the 21st century. At the same time an artist's book and a brief historical investigation, The Shop Sign reports the birth of a painting, relates the fate of another one, and questions the art market, the transit of works of art and the links between artists, dealers and collectors, all the while Huber plays with interpictoriality the way others would use intertextuality.
With an introduction by Wolfgang Ullrich, professor at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung, Karlsruhe.
Born 1955 in Zurich, Thomas Huber lives and works in Berlin.
