In English, "Bagarres" is "a noisy brawl, a rumble"—and that's exactly what it's about here; a noise that joyously disturbs our habits to help us think Art differently—sideways, upside down—to uncomplicate it a bit, to have fun, mostly. So why
Bagarres?
By association of ideas may be, like in the section ACCROCHAGE (HOOK UP) in which 40 artists answer by concatenation. Because to argue is to be together, to reunite like in the section JOUTE (PLAY) in which we tell you the story of a shared Art experience. It's also to build relationships, to share, like in the section BATAILLE (BATTLE) where the artists happily seize an anonymous paiting to re-interpret it, for our greatest pleasure. It's, again, to create together, like in the section CARTEL that provokes new collaborations, new pieces, inventing ephemeral or long-lasting couples. It's finally to mix and twist stories like in RIPOSTE (retaliation) where the artists answer to a literary text written especially for
Bagarres. It's therefore through a series of funnily serious, and we hope, seriously funny game rules that
Bagarres was thought of. "A potential creative openener", a free-minded review, gravely light-headed in which 'a piece of art is what's of no use" (
Christo) and that's so essential.
