“These blurbs were presented in November 2009 at Artissima (an art fair in Turin I am very fond of and have been attending since its first year), so I called them “labels for Artissima,” and then they became
Pizzini, with an English subtitle,
Sentences, borrowed from the famous text by
Sol LeWitt. During the November event, my booth was so crowded you couldn't get in, due to the irrepressible curiosity of the visitors who suddenly found themselves in the role of readers. By the end of the fair, I was overwhelmed by the compliments and overjoyed by the success of my idea. Everyone wanted to read, talk about, and even own these slips of paper with their short aphorisms. The “pizzini” were such a hit that I couldn't resist the urge to give them an encore, writing more and trying them out in different contexts. So we used them, with the necessary translations, for Art Basel, Frieze in New York, and Fiac in Paris. Now I'm planning a fair in Hong Kong. Who knows what the pizzini will be like in Chinese?” – Massimo Minini
