Notes Video Stéphane Pichard - Notes Video
Seven films by French artist Stéphane Pichard, from Seoul to Bamako, with an essay by Patrick Javault.
Presentation of Everyday Life, this famous title could be applied to Stéphane Pichard's short séquences, provided that it is specified that these presentations are cinematic and that it is the eye cast over them which lends a consistency to otherwise unremarkable gestures. Through a choice of frame or a camera movement, his films actually always find a way to suggest that ups and downs, vagaries and incidents might have been settled, not to say directed. We waver constantly between the plausible and the uncertain. Through the succession of these presentations based on encounter and opportunity, he has managed to construct and assert form over duration.
Born 1968 in Nanterre, France, Stephane Pichard lives and works in Bamako, Berlin, Paris and Seoul.. In 1993 he graduated from the ENSBA in Paris. He continued his studies at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, completing a Master in Fine Arts. He then pursued his research at Paris VIII and at the INA. As a professor of plastic arts, he developed the residency program "Synapse" at the ESA in Rueil-Malmaison.
