Chris Marker

Chris Marker (Christian Bouche-Villeneuve, 1921-2012) was a French writer, photographer, documentary film director, multimedia artist and film essayist. Famous for a series of major films, between documentaries and film essays, including La Jetée (1962), A Grin Without a Cat (1977) and Sans Soleil (1983), Marker, associated with the French New Wave, practiced all forms of writing, questioning the power of images, memory and past time. He has collaborated with Costa-Gavras, Alain Resnais, Jorge Semprun, William Klein, Akira Kurosawa, etc.
