Le catalogue du pavillon turc à la 60e exposition internationale d'art contemporain de la Biennale de Venise.
Hollow and Broken: A State of the World is published on the occasion of Gülsün Karamustafa's participation in the Türkiye Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, with an installation that invites visitors to consider the tragic and tumultuous realities of a world impacted by wars, earthquakes, migration, and nuclear peril. The publication consists of two books, one focusing on the Pavilion and one dedicated to the artist's more than 50 years-long artistic practice. Throughout the publication, Karamustafa reflects on her creative process and unveils a multi-layered continuity in her practice leading up to Hollow and Broken. In the first volume, numerous invited authors focus on a different material employed by the artist in her Venice project. The artist's diary and a list of keywords offer insight into Karamustafa's creative journey. The second volume features the artist's responses to questions posed by the book's designer, Esen Karol, exploring the use of materials, concepts and modes of production in the artist's works.
A folded poster, featuring film stills that the artist considers as the binding statement of her Venice project, is inserted between the two volumes.
Gülsün Karamustafa (née en 1946 à Ankara) est considérée comme l'une des artistes les plus importantes de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle en Turquie.
