Paul Chenavard Thomas Schlesser - Paul Chenavard
An essay on French artist Paul Chenavard (1807-1895), romantic cursed painter-prophet, illustrating the distance between the historic claims which build the modern myth of the artist and a relative efficiency.
Art historian, writer, journalist, teacher, curator, Thomas Schlesser (born 1977 in Paris) is the director of the Fondation Hartung-Bergman. He has written extensively on the relationship between aesthetics (visual arts, literature, mass culture, etc.) and politics. He has published several works on Gustave Courbet. His first novel, Les Yeux de Mona (2024), was an international literary phenomenon.
